Global solidarity rooted in Indigenous wisdom

The Amazonia Yurahu Alliance (AYA) is a non-profit initiative building a bridge between the Yawanawá people of the Brazilian Amazon and communities in Canada and North America. The organization works to preserve Indigenous knowledge, empower female leadership, and protect the Amazon rainforest through cultural exchange, direct community support, and projects like the Nipei Garden of Medicines. My work on this project focused on creating a cohesive, respectful, and impactful brand presence that could honour the Yawanawá’s story while appealing to a global audience of supporters.

Brand & Logo

The Amazonia Yurahu Alliance brand embodies unity, cultural respect, and a bridge between worlds. The logo draws inspiration from Kene, the traditional geometric art of the Yawanawá people, weaving together two powerful symbols: the butterfly, representing spiritual knowledge and transformation, and the snake, representing spiritual protection. Its colour palette reflects the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Amazon —blues and greens of the skies and forest, paired with the red and black of traditional Yawanawá face paint. The symmetrical, interlocking design speaks to harmony, connection, and the alliance’s mission to protect and share Indigenous wisdom.

Website

The Amazonia Yurahu Alliance website was designed to translate a deeply cultural and community-driven mission into an engaging online experience. The goal was to create a platform that not only shares the Yawanawá’s story, but also makes it easy for visitors to explore projects, learn about their values, and contribute through donations or partnerships. Every design choice — from typography to colour palette — was intentional, blending cultural authenticity with modern usability.
